Are you one of those people who have to spend time penciling in your eyebrows? For those people who have thin or lightly colored eyebrow hair, many will choose a pencil to darken the hairs to enhance their eyebrows. However, there is an alternative, and one that will last much longer than penciling your eyebrows. Microblading is a great way to ensure your eyebrows look great every day without the need of spending time in front of the mirror. Skin And Body Refinery will explain how microblading is done and how they can help you maintain long lasting, beautiful eyebrows.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is basically a surface tattoo that will eventually lighten up and vanish over time. Just like penciling in a bit of color, an ink is applied to the skin underneath the hair, helping the eyebrow stand out. Microblading uses a 7 to 16 micro-needle pen, which is a tool with different configurations to provide the perfect shaped eyebrow. As each person’s face shape and eyebrow shape vary, so will the microblading tool. The needles on this tool are very small which helps to better mimic the eyebrow hairs. The microblading tool punctures the skin, injecting small amounts of ink or dye to the skin, underneath the hair.

How Long Does Microblading Take?

Most microblading procedures take on average 1 to 2 hours depending on the skin type and the coloring goals. As the skin is being punctured, a numbing agent, such as lidocaine, is applied to the site to prevent any pain. The numbing agent will be applied at least 30 to 45 minutes before the procedure. After the procedure is complete, there may be some soreness. However, any over-the-counter pain medication will help during the healing process.

How Long Does Microblading Eyebrows Last?

As the skin is being punctured during the process, it can take 1 to 2 weeks to recover. The day after the procedure the eyebrow skin may look dark and in some cases soften. It will then peel much like dandruff. If any touch up is required, wait at least a month in between microblading to ensure the skin is fully healed. If the skin feels dry you can apply a moisturizer over the eyebrow. However, make such oils do not build up. Microblading is not permanent. As you shed skin, the eyebrow will lighten up until all of the ink is gone. In general, microblading will last about two years. To maintain the microblading result, it is recommended to get touch-up treatments every 6 to 8 months.

Who Is & Isn’t a Microblading Candidate?

Most people are a candidate for microblading. However for some people with certain conditions, it is recommended to consult with your doctor before receiving microblading treatments. Those who may not be an ideal candidate for microblading are those with:
• Bleeding Disorders/On Blood Thinner or Medication such as Accutane
• Active Inflammatory Conditions such as Eczema or Shingles
• Ink Allergies
• Using Anti-Aging Creams with Retinol
• Thyroid Disorders
• Diabetes
• Had Recent Waxing or Chemical Peel Along the Eyebrows
