It happens to everyone, one day we wake up and realize our skin is not as firm as it once was. The fine lines start to appear, followed by a deep wrinkle or two. Then we find ourselves scrambling to find the fountain of youth so we can regain the elasticity we once were blessed with. Aging is a normal part of our everyday lives, but thanks to advancements in skin care and today’s technology, we are blessed to have options available to us to aid us in slowing down that inevitable process. Some of our greatest routines start right in the comfort of our own homes. Yes; there are things you can do every day to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. You can do this by incorporating healthy routines into your daily life. Small changes here and there can make a big impact on the way our skin ages. Skin & Body Refinery wants to help you achieve your goal of keeping your skin young and healthy. Following are some helpful tips to slow down the aging process we all go through at one time or another.

Meditation Reduces Stress

Stress is a major factor in how we age. According to the Mayo Clinic, devoting a few minutes each day to reset your stress meter and clear your mind can have a positive lasting effect on your overall health. Doing so will help to level out your cortisol levels and relax your facial muscles.

Drinking Water & Eating Healthy

Limit your sugar intake, eat a low sodium diet and flourish your body with lots of healthy fruits, veggies, fish, good fats and plenty of water. What we eat not only shows on our faces, but our whole bodies as well. By eating healthy and drinking plenty of water, you can keep your skin hydrated and feeling loved. These great foods are packed with the nutrients, protein, vitamins and minerals needed for healthy aging.

Does Smoking & Drinking Alcohol Cause Skin Problems?

Smoking is possibly the worst things for your skin. Tobacco is full of harmful toxins that not only harm your lungs and throat, but your skin as well. This leads to premature aging and a life of fine lines and wrinkles. Do yourself a favor, drop the habit. A study published in 1999 in the Alcohol Research and Health journal states that drinking too much alcohol leads to premature aging. Alcohol dehydrates your system which can leave your skin looking dull and leads to wrinkles and fine lines. Up your water intake and lower the alcohol for more youthful looking skin.

Wear Sunscreen Everyday

According to the Mayo Clinic, too much sun exposure speeds up the aging process and causes wrinkles. Keep your face and body protected from harmful UV rays by applying sunscreen daily and wearing a hat or using an umbrella to shade yourself from the sun if you plan to be outside for most of the day.

Silk Pillow Cases

By switching to a silk or satin pillowcase, you will put less stress on your face while you sleep at night. The silk will allow your skin to gently glide across the pillow, unlike a cotton pillowcase that puts up resistance and even squishes your face. Try to limit sleeping on your stomach or sides as well. Sleeping on your back will keep your skin free and reduce wrinkles.

Regular Facials are Great for Skin

Make your skincare a priority. To help your skin produce more collagen, opt for regular facials or chemical peels to give you youthful, radiant skin that is free of fine lines. Follow up with regular, healthy skin routines at home such as daily moisturizing and weekly face masks to keep your skin hydrated and healthy.
