One of the services that we have provided for a long time is skin tag removal. Today we want to take some time to talk about skin tags and why you may be ready to have yours removed.

What is a Skin Tag?

First let’s start by talking about what exactly a skin tag is. According to Medical News Today a skin tag “is a small piece of soft, hanging skin that may have a peduncle, or stalk.” There are many other names for skin tags but this is the one that most people are familiar with. Since they are so common many people do not become overly concerned when they have a skin tag or two develop.

Are Skin Tags Contagious, Hereditary or Harmful?

Here are some interesting facts about skin tags. There are some areas of your body that are more likely to develop unsightly skin tags. Eyelids, necks, armpits, groin folds, and underneath your breasts are all areas that skin tags frequently grow. The appearance of skin tags is very common and generally occur to people that are middle-aged. Almost everyone will develop skin tags at some point in their lives. A person can have a single skin tag or hundreds of skin tags. Some good news is that skin tags are not contagious. You can’t “catch” a skin tag from someone else or spread it from one part of your body to another. Skin tags may be hereditary however as this condition does run in families! Most of the time skin tags are harmless. They are ridiculously annoying at times, but not dangerous. Frequently people complain that they snag on clothes or jewelry. Sometimes skin tags become twisted, irritated, or begin to bleed. If this happens to you, you will want to consider taking a trip to the doctor to have it checked out.

How to Remove Skin Tags

Some people choose to have their skin tags removed because they do not like the way that they look. There are several different ways that you can remove a skin tag. Sometimes rubbing a skin tag on a routine basis for a week or so causes it to fall off. Other skin tags are more stubborn and require more than simply rubbing. If rubbing does not work you can try some over-the-counter solutions that are sold at your local pharmacy. They can also be purchased online. These over-the-counter products freeze the skin tag off similar to how you would freeze a wart off of your body. Many times these over-the-counter products do not actually work though.
